Is a special education diploma accepted in UAE schools?
A special education diploma is often accepted for learning support assistant and shadow teacher roles in UAE schools, but each school and regulator sets its own requirements. Teacher posts generally require a bachelor's degree, a recognised teaching qualification and a UAE teaching licence. An online diploma supports your application; it does not replace a licence.
What this means in practice
UAE private schools, regulated by bodies such as KHDA in Dubai and ADEK in Abu Dhabi, are expected to include students of determination. That creates demand for staff with inclusion training, especially in one-to-one support roles.
What strengthens an application
- A bachelor's degree, attested if required.
- Training in special educational needs, with a clear syllabus you can describe.
- Experience with autism, ADHD or learning difficulties.
- References from schools or families you have supported.
- Clean safeguarding checks.
Questions to ask employers
Ask whether the role needs a teaching licence, which documents need attestation, and whether visa and insurance are included.
Building relevant experience before applying
Gulf schools value practical experience with the curricula they follow, such as British, American, IB or CBSE. Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD or learning difficulties in an inclusive school is especially useful. Keep a record of your responsibilities, strategies you used and outcomes, and ask supervisors for references. Learning about the UAE's inclusive education frameworks shows employers that you understand local expectations.
Before you decide
- Read current UAE adverts for your target role.
- Check document attestation requirements.
- Prepare examples of your practical work.
- Apply through reputable channels with no candidate fees.
What to keep in mind
Acceptance is decided by employers and regulators. APTTI does not guarantee employment abroad.
